Illustrative IFRS financial statements 2008

Social funds are expanding in all parts of the developing world. The attractive feature of social funds is that they use the comparative strengths of each of the government, private sector, and community organization partners and coalesce them into an integrated whole. The communities identify, design, and help implement projects such as schools, health clinics, roads, and water supply that will serve their needs. The govern- ment provides financing, monitors and supervises the projects, and en- sures that the operation and maintenance of these facilities is adequate. The private sector offers technical expertise, materials, labor, and orga- nizational skills to implement these projects. Social funds allow the pri- vate sector...

The European Commission is expected to finalise the bulk of the AIFMD level 2 implementing measures in the second trimester of 2012. Then the onus will be on the Luxembourg lawmakers to push ahead in the remaining months of 2012 to draft the new legal texts required to transpose the EU framework into local law. The ultimate deadline to transpose the AIFMD is July 2013. SIF law In Luxembourg the industry is ready to embrace an update of the Specialized Investment Fund (SIF) law, that will introduce some significant changes to the SIF regime, such as the requirement for pre-approval of the SIF before launch, the possibility to cross-invest between subfunds in the...

Single Market Act II Together for new growth (Text with EEA relevance)

Fiscal policy, based on cash-budgeting, aims over the medium term at preserving fiscal sustainability, while allowing for some modest increase in infrastructure and social spending. Given the fiscal framework, Government finances have improved. There are, however, unresolved issues concerning ghost workers and the accounting for diamond revenues. Total revenue increased from US$933.6 million in 2009 to US$2.34 billion in 2010, underpinned by increases in income and corporate taxes. Despite the progress made on the fiscal side, difficult challenges still remain, including a rising wage bill and the limited fiscal space for infrastructure and priority social programs....

Second, explicitly analyzing fees allows us to determine whether investors in SRI funds pay an explicit price for the ethical value of their investments. Our results also shed light on the way in which mutual fund fees are determined, particularly on the question of whether fees simply reflect funds' operating costs or, as argued by Christofersen and Musto (2002) and Gil-Bazo and Ruiz-Verdú (2009), they are set taking into account the performance sensitivity of funds' clienteles. This is especially relevant in the context of the recent debate in the literature regarding the sensitivity of SRI fund investors to performance (Bollen,...

Microfinance Investment Funds Key Features

Social funds do not operate in a vacuum. The broad trends and changes occurring in the countries in which social funds operate form a back- drop for the subsequent discussions and debate to take place during the next three days of this meeting. Experiences with social funds show a great deal of heterogeneity. A va- riety of players are involved in social funds. The content of social funds programs themselves vary greatly, and views about their efficacy di- verge. The Bank hopes that this workshop will be able to characterize what works and under what circumstances, what does not work and why it does not, and what can be...

Fourteenth Meeting Of The IMF Committee On Balance Of Payments Statistics

Many governments acknowledge that environmental degradation and climate change pose international and trans-boundary risks to human populations, economies, and ecosystems that could result in a worsening of poverty, social tensions, and political stability. To confront these global challenges, countries have negotiated various international agreements to protect the environment, reduce pollution, conserve natural resources, and promote sustainable growth. While some observers call upon developed countries to take the lead in addressing these issues, efforts are unlikely to be sufficient without similar measures being implemented in developing countries. Developing countries, however, focused on poverty reduction and economic growth, do not have the...

Evolving Investment Management Regulation 2012: A clear path ahead?

To control for management company effects, we compare SRI and conventional funds run by the same management company and find that performance differences become small and statistically insignificant. These results suggest that differences between SRI and conventional funds may be explained by management company-level factors that determine both fund performance and the company's decision to manage SRI funds. We further explore this issue by distinguishing between SRI funds run by management companies specialized in SRI and those run by generalist companies. Our results show that SRI funds managed by generalist companies actually underperform, both before and after fees,...

LEVERAGE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) – the private sector arm of the World Bank group - has already been working for several years on how to galvanize institutional investors around the issues of climate change and investment in poor countries. 37 The organisation is looking at instruments - whether funds or funding facilities - that can combine the IFC‟s ability to source projects, know the investment landscape and risks in developing countries and bring projects to the table for potential P8 investment. One example is using the IFC‟s experience in debt structuring for projects where...
